The Icelandic Film School ranked number 44 out the best 180 film universities in the world

There is always great excitement at The Film School when the results of the annual film school competition within Cilect, the international association of film schools, are announced.

This year The Film School took part in two categories through Cilect, fictional shorts and documentaries, with great success

"Route 7" - Fictional shorts

In the fictional short films category, Óskar Þorri Hörpuson's graduation film, "Route 7", was selected, but Óskar Þorri graduated in the spring of 2023 from Screenwriting and Directing.

"A dark-skinned man encounters prejudice on the bus, but his day takes a positive turn when an elementary school girl starts talking to him."

Here you can see which schools voted for "Route 7";

Here you can see which schools voted for "New life";

47-50th place

Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS - Finland) - 4 points

Beijing Film Academy (BFA - China) - 2 points

Western Australian Screen Academy (WASA - Australia) - 2 points

It should be noted that The Film School has participated in this competition since 2013 and the school's best result has been the 14th place in 2017. The average is 49th place, but the school has been in the top 20 three times.

This competition is important for The Film School in its quality work, to get a comparison with the best film schools. It's worth noting that we always look to the old colonial masters in Denmark to see if we manage to beat the great Danske Filmskole, and we succeeded this year, but they were in the next category behind us.
