Student film chosen for Juilliard's Art of the Score

A short film by our current student, Pétur Snær Valgeirsson in Directing and Producing, has been chosen by Juilliard to be part of their program, "Art of the Score"

The collaboration between The Icelandic Film School and the prestigious Julliard School of Music in New York, which has been ongoing since 2021, when Fridrik Thor Fridriksson was dean and is in full swing. Now, Pétur Snær Valgeirsson's film, "The Music of Eric Zann", has been selected for the "Art of the Score" project. Juilliard offers a two-year program that gives composers the opportunity to work with directors of film, television, animation, and new visual and interactive media. The selected projects are presented as part of "Art of the Score", a program of short films and visual media from around the world with original music by Juilliard students.

The Music of Eric Zann

A young man finds himself enveloped in music that takes over his nights. He searches for the music's creator and finds himself in a strange world.

The film is based on a short story by the writer H.P. Lovecraft and was Pétur Snær final project in his second semester last December in the department of Directing and Producing.

"H.P. Lovecraft is my favorite writer and this story by him is also a favorite. I read the story when I was a teenager, and after I got into the school I quickly thought that I wanted to make a film from one of his stories. The school announced this collaboration with Juilliard and since my film is a lot about music I thought it would be a good fit for this. Everything went very well except for finding a location for the filming because I wanted a space with wooden walls, it wasn't until about a week before filming when I got the location. I have to say that I couldn't have made this film without my film crew."

The film will be screened along with other selected films this spring in New York and is a great honor for both Pétur Snær and the production department of The Icelandic Film School.
