Ísold Vala Þorsteinsdóttir - Acting

Ísold Vala will be graduating from Acting with her film "The untold freedom"

The untold freedom

Let's look into the future, or the year 2045, where we get to know the new Icelandic society. Class division is now greater than before. The elite live a gray box life where there is no freedom or passion, but the poor are free in every way and live a more colorful life. We meet Urður, who is the new CEO of Iceland's largest energy company, but she doesn't seem to belong to society and despises this endless habit that is her life. She wants to break free from the shackles of modernity and free herself from the grip of her inner shadow.

What is the first movie experience you remember?

The first movie I went to the cinema was "Chicken Little", but I don't remember much about that experience. However, I remember when I saw "Duggholufólkið" for the first time. Blue ketchup, ghost and a polar bear, it does not get much better!.

What fascinates you about filmmaking?

What fascinates me about filmmaking is everything that happens behind the scenes. Everything from costume design to the editing process. Everything that makes a movie a movie. I remember that whenever I had finished watching a DVD movie, I always checked to see if it was possible to see a small video clip of everything that happened in the production process.

Why did you choose your department?

I chose acting because I thought it would be a good foundation. I had been on an acting course in secondary school and just decided to continue it. But after maybe two semesters, I started to suspect that I was on the wrong path, that I would have been better suited to production. But I don't regret having studied acting, I met a lot of fun people and gained more experience.

Did anything particularly surprise your studies?

It surprised me how important the first semester and the first projects at school are. Everything kind of falls and stands with who you end up with in those projects.

And what does the future look like?

The future is bright. I plan to work on a documentary that I've had in mind for a long time, write scripts for either plays or short films, advertise myself and my work here and there, and not forget to continue living the life I choose.
