Graduation Winter 2022 - Helga Dís Hálfdánardóttir, Creative Technology

Helga Dís Hálfdánardóttir is graduating from Creative Technology with her film "Tarfurinn”

“Tarfurinn” is a documentary about Víðir “Tarfur” Þorgeirsson who is a member of Outlaws in Iceland. We take a look into his life, who he was and who he is today.

What is the first movie experience you remember?

My first movie experience was the movie "Never Ending Story" in Stjörnubíó. I was about three years old and I remember going with my mom and my brother Halli. In the movie there was a very dramatic scene where a white horse sank into a swamp and according to my brother the day was completely ruined after that, I must have howled all the way home and my mother said these words to my brother; "Let's not go to the cinema with Helga Dís again".

What fascinates you about filmmaking?

What fascinates me most about filmmaking is how it reflects society and influences it at the same time. It can challenge the audience, even change the attitudes and values of the audience, and shed light on various issues that otherwise do not have a voice or advocate and bring them to the surface.

Why did you choose your department?

I chose Creative Technology because I wanted to learn to master visual storytelling and learn the process from start to finish. I find it very interesting how it is possible to influence the senses through the technology of sound and image.

And what does the future look like?

The film school matured me a lot, it was very educational for me and I am really grateful to have been a student there. I met great mentors, learned a lot in a short time and have tools in my bag to turn ideas into reality.

Odin knows that.
