Graduation Spring 2022 - Rebekka Rut Svansdóttir, Screenwriting and Directing

Rebekka Rut will be graduating on June 4th from Screenwriting and Directing  with her film “Arenia’s saga: Heroes and Cravens”

A Samarian army's deserter is captured by a cold-blooded woman who travels with him across Arina to try to fix her own shortcomings.

What is your first memory related to films?

"Emil in Kattholt" is naturally a real classic. Apart from the glorious collection of tapes I had, I mainly looked at what could be found on my parents' media player. These include "Sódóma Reykjavík", "Dude where's my car" and "The Amityville Horror"

What fascinates you about film making?

I think it's the most fun story form. If you write a book, you tell the story through words, but in filmmaking you have to tell it through so many things. Lighting, editing, imagery, appearance, recording style, directing, etc. The possibilities are endless

Why did you choose Screenwriting and Directing?

I've always enjoyed writing. The greatest creativity takes place at the script stage and through the direction

And what does the future look like?

That's hard to say. So much can change in one day. I could suddenly decide to go into dairy science next year. I've been trying to make it a rule lately to be more in the present. Stop planning who I'm going to thank when I receive the seventh Oscar and think more about what I'm doing right now. But hopefully the future is full of opportunities, happy happenings and fun
