Get inspired by fun events in Reykjavík

Reykjavik is the capital and largest city of Iceland and home to two thirds of the country’s population. Many different groups have influenced the shaping of the capital area into the vibrant city it is today, a city said to buzz with creative energy and passion.

While Reykjavik maintains its small-town feel, it is still a modern European capital with all the government institutions you would expect to find in a metropolis. 

Reykjavik has a thriving art scene and cultural heritage. It is a true city of experience with a remarkable number of annual festivals and seasonal events. These events attract participants and media attendees from around the world. Festivals are a great platform for students to join in on and establish a mutual interest social network. Not to mention that it is a great way to get inspired and strengthen your creative self.

Today, and for the next few days there are two interesting festivals in Reykjavik that IFS highly recommends for its artistic loving audience. These are the Stockfish Film Festival and Design March.

Stockfish Film Festival

This is a festival for local and international film talent and enthusiasts to celebrate this year’s most acclaimed art-house films. The festival is a revival of the Reykjavik Film Festival that originally started in 1978, and encourages collaboration among professionals in the film industry. The festival is held in Bio Paradis, Reykjavik´s art house cinema, and several other locations. Stockfish is an intimate festival of carefully curated films and industry events, organized by Iceland's professional filmmaking guilds. Mr. Fridrik Thor Fridriksson, Dean of The Icelandic Film School is also the Stockfish festival´s board chairman.

Design March

Design March is a festival that highlights the creativity and growth in Icelandic design and architecture by hosting over 100 events and exhibitions. The five-day festival focuses on a variety of themes such as recycling, the future, production, research, senses, innovation and sustainability. To explain the name of the festival; it is usually held in March, but due to COVID-19 it was postponed and this year held in June instead.
