Former students of The Film School compete for awards at RIFF
The International Film Festival in Reykjavík (RIFF) started this weekend and films were shown in the competition categories Icelandic Shorts I & II and Student Shorts. In these competition categories, the majority of the films are made by former students of The Film School.
The Edda film festival has recently ended, where two dozen former students of The Film School were nominated for the country's main prize in filmmaking and they won all the main prizes, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenwriter.
Students who have graduated from the Icelandic Film School are a large part of the Icelandic film industry. In a normal year, graduated students from the Film Academy fill up to 30% of job titles in the credit lists of Icelandic films.
The results of the surveys have shown that 96% of students start their film career after graduation, and about 40% of those who graduate immediately get a job and work full time in film production after graduation.
In the above competition categories at RIFF, Icelandic Shorts I & II and Student Shorts include the following artists who are former students of the Film School; Arnar Freyr Tómasson, Bergur Árnason, Vala Ómarsdóttir, Ingibjörg Jenný Jóhannesdóttir, Elín Pálsdóttir, Sigurgeir Jónsson, Steini Kristinsson, Jana Arnardóttir, Kristján Jónsson and others.
Icelandic Shorts I will next be shown in Háskólabíó cinema auditorium 3 on October 7 at 15:30 and Icelandic Shorts II also in auditorium 3 on October 8 at 15:00.
