Alessio Fresta - Screenwriting and Directing

On February 8th Alessio Fresta will graduate from Screenwriting and Directing with his film "Call me the breeze"

“Call me the breeze”

A man goes around town running errands for his wife. At the end of the evening a stroke of luck will change his life.

What is the first film experience you remember that had an impact on you?

I had my first experience with movies in a cinema. When I was five years old, my parents took me to the cinema with my brother and sister. It was a silly and funny comedy (The Naked Gun by David Zucker, 1988), but I was fascinated by watching it in the darkness of the theater, with the images projected onto a white screen. It was a completely new feeling for me.

What fascinates you about filmmaking?

I answer this question with another question: What is art, and what is its purpose?

Art, in all its forms, serves to (re)connect humanity with Nature, both spiritually and rationally. Those who create Art are like Demiurges, shaping a world of symbols meant to guide people toward a deeper and more genuine awareness.

Filmmaking is a way of contributing to this concept of Art.

Why did you choose Screenwriting and Directing ?

You should see my house to understand! I have a magnetic whiteboard full of notes and plot

developments, with connections between characters and situations. It looks like a detective’s board!

That’s where I create my stories.

Writing screenplays means creating a world with countless facets and multiple points of view.

Did anything particularly surprise you during your studies?

During my studies, I learned many interesting things; above all, I understood the importance of pre-production, which includes the shooting list, storyboards and floor plans.

This is the initial phase where everything is precisely defined. If pre-production is documented thoroughly, it can be said that a large part of the work is already done, making filming and editing much easier.

And what does your future look like?

When I had my interview for admission to the school, I was asked a question: "After your studies, do you plan to move to another country, or would you stay here to contribute to the growth of the Icelandic film industry?"

I chose the second option and said that I would like to work in a production company as a screenwriter and/or script supervisor on set. This remains my goal, and I will do everything I can to achieve it.
